Zirconia Restorations

Zeno

Zeno is layered porcelain fused to zirconia that is hypoallergenic, biocompatible, and has high flexural strength. Zeno offers the strength of PFM while eliminating esthetic challenges such as bright, opaque reflection or dark shadow lines that appear apical to margin. Through the advances of CadCam technology, they provide consistently accurate fits. Due to zirconias natural translucency, the crowns are warmer and provide superior life like coloration when compare to PFM counter parts. Zeno is a great choice for anterior or posterior cases, crown over implants, and up to 8 unit bridges.  It is not recommended if a patient has broke a PFM crown previously or on a case that requires bonding.

Chamfer margins are ideal with corresponding prep depth. The ideal crown thickness is 1.5mm axial and 2.0mm occlusal or incisal.

Ivoclar Vivadent recommend using Multilink Automix for maximum strength of restoration overall.

Panavia V5 (Kuraray)- Ideal for short tapered preparations

Resin Ionomer Cement (RelyX or RelyX Unicem, 3M ESPE)

Maxcem Elite (Kerr)

Panavia FZO (Kuraray)- Ideal for short tapered preparations

Glass Ionomer Cement (GC Fuji, GC America)

Athena Super Translucent Zirconia

Athena Super Translucent Zirconia is a highly biocompatible material that combines the known positive properties of zirconia with a significant increase in translucency that is known only from lithium disilicate. Athena offers 57% translucency and 1150 MPA in strength; it is equally as durable as it is esthetic. The material is perfect for all highly esthetic treatments in anterior tooth region but is also perfectly appropriate for use in posterior tooth region. Athena is another versatile material that can be for single crowns, bridges, inlays/onlays, maryland bridges, implants and hybrid restorations.

A shoulder prep is not needed, a mild chamfer or feather edge margins is adequate. For buccal, lingual, and occlusal reduction 1mm is ideal, but can go 0.5mm in some areas where further reduction is needed.

Athena Super Translucent Zirconia can be cemented using resin reinforced glass ionomer such as RelyX Luting Cement. For maximum bond strength, use resin cement like RelyX Ultimate, Panavia V5 or Multilink Automix. Before delivery to your office, the interior surface of all zirconia crowns are cleaned with Ivoclean and disinfected ready for insertion.

Adjust full-contour zirconia crowns and bridges using fine diamond burrs, water and air spray to keep restoration cold and to avoid microfractures. Restorations can be polished with Brasseler Dialite system or similar substitutes. For a high shine, you can use Ziocon-Brite from DVA with stiff bristle brush or similar substitutes.
